The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change (FFC) in Sudan signed the Addis Ababa Declaration on Tuesday, a significant step towards ending the civil war that broke out in the country in October 2022.
The declaration, which was reached after several weeks of negotiations in the Ethiopian capital, includes a commitment by both sides to immediately and unconditionally cease hostilities, open safe corridors for humanitarian aid, and release prisoners and detainees.
The declaration also includes an agreement to form a joint committee to stop and end the war and build peace, and to form civilian administrations by consensus of the people of the war-affected areas to restore life to normal.
The declaration also confirmed the agreement on “civilian leadership of the political process with a commitment to participation that excludes only the National Congress Party and the Islamic Movement.”
The international community has welcomed the declaration, hailing it as a significant step towards peace in Sudan.
