The Egyptian Foreign Ministry, on Wednesday, issued a warning about the escalating clashes in Lebanon, expressing concerns over the potential expansion of conflict in the region.
The statement was made by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry, during a meeting with a delegation from the American Senate and House of Representatives, led by Senator Joni Ernst.
Sameh Shoukry, in discussions with the delegation, emphasized several key points:
The critical need for the delivery of humanitarian aid in quantities sufficient to meet the needs of Palestinian citizens.
Shoukry expressed hope for the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2720 to facilitate urgent and sustainable aid to meet the humanitarian requirements of the Gaza Strip.
Egypt’s complete rejection of all forms of Palestinian displacement or the dissolution of the Palestinian issue, stating that such actions would not contribute to regional stability.
The urgency to halt the targeting of civilians and the violence of Israeli settlers highlights the necessity of an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.
Shoukry also stressed the responsibility of influential international parties, especially the United States, to address and halt Israeli violations in Gaza, calling for proper identification and accountability of the perpetrators.
Linking these issues to the risks of widening regional conflict in light of developments in the Gaza war, Abu Zeid noted that recent weeks have revealed the dangers of an expanding conflict scenario.
He pointed out the increasing intensity and frequency of skirmishes in Lebanon, as well as in Iraq and Syria.
Abu Zeid also emphasized the critical importance of securing the Red Sea’s navigation for the smooth and safe flow of global trade.
Members of the American Congressional delegation, in response, acknowledged and appreciated Egypt’s efforts in facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and its role in securing the evacuation of foreign nationals from the area, as well as facilitating prisoner release deals.
