Transport disruptions are expected to continue in the UK on Wednesday after heavy rain and strong winds from Storm Henrik battered much of the country.

The UK’s Met Office has issued more than 300 flood warnings across England and Wales, while power cuts have affected around 10,000 homes.

The UK’s rail network was hit by flooding and power cuts after 2pm on Tuesday, and many operators reported major disruption to morning services.

Greater Anglia, which operates trains in the east of England, said it was still experiencing “severe disruption”, with “do not travel” warnings in place on many routes. South Western Railway said it was likely that disruption associated with the storm would continue throughout the day.

A major flood warning has been issued for the River Nene in Northampton, where there is a risk to life from deep, fast-flowing water in Billing Aquadrome holiday park and nearby shopping complexes, according to German news agency DPA.
