Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the head of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, has removed Public Prosecutor Khalifa Ahmed from his position, as reported by Al-Sudani newspaper. In his place, Al-Fateh Muhammad Issa Tayfour has been appointed as the new Public Prosecutor.

Al-Fateh Tayfour, previously serving as the Public Prosecutor for Darfur crimes, brings a wealth of experience from various prosecution offices and legal departments.

This decision comes just days before a critical meeting that could potentially resolve the ongoing conflicts within Sudan, particularly the power struggle between Al-Burhan, the army commander, and Hemedti, the commander of the Rapid Support Forces.

Earlier, the IGAD Summit had urged the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Al-Burhan, and Hemedti to meet and negotiate a ceasefire.

The meeting also aimed to discuss measures to facilitate the delivery of relief materials. However, it was postponed for technical reasons, with Al-Burhan being notified. Hemedti expressed regrets for being unable to attend the Djibouti meeting.
