On Tuesday, 22 people, mostly children, lost their lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo due to heavy rains that caused infrastructure destruction and led to flooding.

The heavy rains, which continued to pour throughout the night and into Tuesday, triggered landslides that destroyed more than 15 houses in Kananga, the capital of the Kasai Central region, according to the region’s governor’s media office.

The media office added that among the victims were a woman and her eight children who perished in their home, as well as a father and four children in another house.

The Democratic Republic of Congo often experiences heavy rainfall and the resulting flooding and landslides pose a significant risk to its population, particularly in areas with less resilient infrastructure.

Such natural disasters can have devastating consequences, and swift response and support are crucial in these situations.
