Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed Russia’s enthusiasm about the ongoing state visit of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Wednesday.
In response to a query from TASS regarding Russia’s sentiment towards the visit by the Algerian leader, Bogdanov expressed a strong positive sentiment. He added, “The Algerian president stated at a welcoming ceremony at Vnukovo Airport yesterday that he was pleased to embark on a state visit to Russia.”
Bogdanov underscored potential avenues for partnership between businesses and corporations in both countries, and possibilities for technical collaboration.
“Indeed, we have a rich shared history encompassing solidarity and support for the establishment of Algerian statehood. It’s imperative for the current leaders and the new generation to comprehend this history and regard it as a strong base for our future cooperation,” the senior Russian diplomat emphasized.
President Tebboune arrived in Russia for a state visit on Tuesday. In March, Tebboune disclosed plans to visit Russia at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. Diplomatically, a state visit is considered the highest level of visit one nation’s leader can make to another.
On June 10, the information portal Le Jeune Independent reported that the Algerian leader’s visit would span from June 14-16.
According to the media source, Tebboune, flanked by a sizable ministerial delegation, is anticipated to have a dialogue with Putin. The state heads may explore methods to enhance strategic alliances, tackle global issues such as the situation in the Middle East and Sahel region, and negotiate energy market cooperation within OPEC+.
Earlier, a knowledgeable source revealed to TASS that Tebboune might participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which runs from June 14-17.
