UN Praises Algeria’s Efforts in Human Rights Protection

On Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, Mary Lawlor, praised Algeria for its  Thursday, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, Mary Lawlor, praised Algeria for its efforts in safeguarding human rights. 

This recognition came during her meeting with the Minister of Justice, Abdelrachid Tebbi, where Lawlor commended Algeria for “harmonizing national legislation with international standards and its commitment to mechanisms protecting human rights, as well as the facilitations provided for her mission.”

According to a statement from the Ministry of Justice, the meeting served as an opportunity to “review constitutional and legal reforms aimed at safeguarding and promoting human rights and freedoms in Algeria.”

Additionally, discussions touched upon areas of cooperation with international and regional organizations related to human rights.

Lawlor also addressed several issues within her mandate during the meeting. Algeria’s commitment to aligning its legal framework with international human rights standards reflects its dedication to upholding fundamental rights and liberties.

This recognition from the United Nations underscores Algeria’s ongoing efforts in the realm of human rights protection and collaboration with international entities in this crucial endeavor.
