The first session of political consultations between Algeria and Azerbaijan took place on Wednesday in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The meeting was co-chaired by Lounes Magramane, the Secretary-General of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Yalchin Rafiyev, the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister responsible for the Middle East and Africa.

According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this inaugural session follows the signing of a bilateral agreement establishing these consultations in August 2022.

The session reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for enhancement based on the ambitious action plan agreed upon by the heads of diplomacy of both countries.

This plan was formulated during the visit of Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to Baku in July, prioritizing the strengthening of institutional mechanisms to bolster bilateral cooperation.

During the consultations, both parties agreed to increase the frequency and regularity of visits at various levels and to prepare for the signing of pending bilateral agreements in the near future.

The statement also noted that the consultations provided an opportunity to exchange views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
