Save the Children, a UK-based organization, has reported that extreme weather conditions in countries most vulnerable to climate change have exacerbated hunger among over 27 million children last year.

This figure represents a significant 135% increase from 2021, as stated by the organization in a report covered by the American news channel Alhurra. The organization highlighted that children accounted for nearly half of the 57 million individuals who faced acute food insecurity.

This situation has escalated to a crisis level or worse in 12 countries in 2022 due to severe weather conditions. Particularly in the Horn of Africa, including Ethiopia and Somalia, nearly half of these 27 million children reside.

Inger Ashing, the CEO of Save the Children, emphasized in a statement that with more frequent and severe climate-related weather events, the impact on children’s lives is expected to worsen.
