Clashes Escalate between Sudan’s Army & RSF in Khartoum

Early Monday, fierce battles resumed between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Jabal Awliya region, south of Khartoum. Residents reported hearing the sounds of explosions, signaling a significant escalation in the conflict.

Sources from the RSF informed the Arab World News Agency on Sunday that their forces had seized the Najumi Air Base in the Jabal Awliya area, after attacking and forcing the army units to retreat south towards the White Nile State in central Sudan.

However, the Sudanese Army’s spokesperson, Brigadier Nabil Abdullah, refuted these claims in a late Sunday Facebook statement, asserting, “The reports of the RSF occupying Najumi Air Base south of Khartoum or approaching it are false.”

Brigadier Abdullah added that the army forces repelled an attack by the RSF in the Jabal Awliya area, inflicting significant losses in equipment and personnel.

The RSF aims to control the Jabal Awliya Dam, which includes a small bridge connecting the city of Omdurman with south Khartoum. This strategic move comes after the destruction of the Shambat Bridge on Saturday, previously used by the RSF as a supply line to their forces in the three capital cities.

Both parties in the conflict have exchanged accusations regarding the destruction of the Shambat Bridge, which connects Omdurman and Khartoum North.
