Kyung Nan Park, Director of Emergencies at the United Nations World Food Programme, revealed today that Gaza’s population of 2.3 million people is grappling with severe food shortages and malnutrition.

According to Park, as reported by The Guardian through its online platform, before October 7th, 33% of Gaza’s inhabitants suffered from food insecurity.

However, the situation has worsened significantly, with the entire population now facing food insecurity.

Currently, the program manages to deliver only 40 to 50 trucks daily, while there is a pressing need for 100 trucks each day to provide meaningful humanitarian food assistance to the people of Gaza.

Park emphasized that apart from financial resources, the program requires regular and secure access to Gaza to reach those in dire need.

She also pointed out that even the program’s own personnel in Gaza are experiencing food shortages.

She noted that the program used to collaborate with more than 23 bakeries in the densely populated region. However, due to fuel and supply shortages, only one bakery remains operational.

Park concluded by underscoring the gravity of the situation, revealing that people are lining up for up to 10 days in hopes of obtaining food, only to leave empty-handed.
