Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, has announced that Libya has assumed the presidency of the Arab Group in New York for the month of November. This announcement followed the first coordination meeting held by the Libyan mission with the Permanent Representative of Palestine, Ambassador Riyad Mansour.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in Gaza and the West Bank and explored ways of joint coordination through various United Nations bodies, especially the Security Council and the General Assembly.

The Libyan mission, during the meeting, reaffirmed Libya’s full support, both from its leadership and people, for the Palestinian people and their just cause. Libya, in its role as the presiding nation this month, pledged to utilize all available resources to lead and represent the Arab Group effectively.

Their goal is to work towards halting violations and aggression by the occupying forces against innocent civilians.

Al-Sunni emphasized the importance of building upon the recent Arab resolution issued in the General Assembly and working towards an immediate, permanent, and sustainable humanitarian ceasefire. This ceasefire should lead to the cessation of hostilities, the provision of humanitarian aid, and the prevention of forced displacement.

On October 27th, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution with the support of the majority of 120 member states. The resolution called for an immediate, permanent, and sustainable humanitarian ceasefire to halt hostile actions and ensure the delivery of essential goods and services to civilians throughout Gaza promptly and without obstacles.
