Syria reported on Wednesday that an Israeli airstrike on military sites in Daraa resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers and injuries to seven others.
The Syrian state news agency quoted a military source, who stated that, “At approximately 1:45 AM today, Israel conducted an aerial attack from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, targeting several of our military positions in the countryside of Daraa.
This led to the deaths of eight soldiers and the injury of seven others, in addition to some material losses.”
Earlier in the day, the Israeli military announced that its fighter jets had targeted infrastructure and mortar launchers belonging to the Syrian army in response to gunfire originating from the Golan Heights.
This incident comes on the 19th day of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, with Israeli airstrikes showing no signs of abating, and international efforts underway to secure a ceasefire.
On Tuesday, projectiles fired from the Syrian Golan Heights towards Israel marked the latest escalation in the ongoing confrontation in the region between Israel, Hamas, and its allies.
The Israeli military reported that it had detected the launch of two rockets from Syria before they landed in open areas late Tuesday night.
In response, Israeli forces conducted artillery strikes against the sources of the rocket fire.
Furthermore, the Israeli military confirmed that its fighter jets had targeted “military infrastructure and mortar-launching platforms belonging to the Syrian army.”
Israel has frequently targeted military installations and assets in Syria, alleging that they are used to transfer weapons to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
