Ireland has announced its commitment to provide additional humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people, amounting to €13 million.

This announcement comes amidst the ongoing hostilities between Israeli forces and Palestinian resistance groups.

Michael Martin, the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, made the announcement in parliament, announcing an immediate package of €13 million.

He explained that these funds would supplement the €16 million initially allocated to support Palestinians during the current year as part of the Irish Aid program.

These funds will be channeled through United Nations agencies to ensure effective delivery of humanitarian aid.

Minister Martin called on all European Union member states and regional countries to increase their humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, emphasizing that this crisis cannot wait.

He reiterated the call made by Prime Minister Leo Varadkar for a humanitarian ceasefire. This call gained momentum after US President Joe Biden secured approval during his visit to Israel on Wednesday for the entry of aid from Egypt into the Gaza Strip.

The ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Palestinian factions has led to a dire humanitarian situation in the region, prompting international efforts to provide assistance and promote a cessation of hostilities.

Ireland’s commitment to increasing its humanitarian aid demonstrates its dedication to addressing the urgent needs of Palestinians affected by the conflict.
