London Luton Airport has announced the suspension of all flights until midday on Wednesday due to a major fire that caused a partial collapse in one of its car parks.

The airport management, located north of the British capital, nearly 40 kilometers from its center, stated that the safety of the passengers and staff remains our top priority, and as such, the airport has decided to suspend all flights until 12:00 (11:00 GMT) on Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 9:00 pm on Tuesday in a recently built car park at the airport, which primarily serves low-cost carriers.

Footage broadcast by British media showed a multi-story building engulfed in flames, with witnesses on social media reporting explosions.

The local ambulance service posted on the “X” platform (formerly known as Twitter) that five people, including four firefighters and an airport employee, were transported to the hospital.

It added that the fire resulted in a sixth person sustaining minor injuries, which were treated at the scene.
