Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Ibrahim Raisi, stressed the significance of addressing all Nagorno-Karabakh-related issues through peaceful, political, and exclusively diplomatic means.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Kremlin’s press service, the telephonic discussion was initiated by the Iranian side. Both leaders echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of settling disputes through non-violent and diplomatic channels exclusively.

President Putin informed Raisi about the activities of the Russian peacekeeping brigade in the region, highlighting their efforts in providing humanitarian assistance to civilians and ensuring the safety and rights of the Armenian populace in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Both nations expressed mutual interest in intensifying efforts on the regional consultative platform “3+3” which includes Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia, along with Russia, Iran, and Turkey.

Further cementing the growing ties, Raisi expressed gratitude for Russia’s support of Iran’s request to join the BRICS group. They also discussed the necessary steps to ensure a seamless integration of Iran into all BRICS activities, especially considering Russia’s presidency in the group in 2024.

The dialogue concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing satisfaction over the constructive and mutually beneficial nature of Russian-Iranian cooperation. A shared intent to bolster trade and economic relations, advance major joint projects in energy and transportation sectors, and expand business and tourism exchanges was reaffirmed.
