Jordan’s Foreign Minister met with his Iranian counterpart on Saturday in New York City to discuss the Syrian crisis and efforts to resolve it.

The two ministers, Ayman Safadi and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, discussed Arab and international efforts to settle the Syrian crisis using a “step-by-step” approach, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

This approach aims to preserve Syria’s unity, stability, and security while addressing the rights and aspirations of the Syrian people.

The meeting between the ministers took place on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Recently, Jordan’s Foreign Minister expressed his view that the “step-by-step” approach to finding a solution to the Syrian crisis is challenging and complex but represents the only viable option.

UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen also presented his “step-by-step” plan to bridge the gap between the parties involved in the Syrian crisis.

However, the opposition rejected this plan, emphasizing that any UN efforts should adhere to the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

UN Resolution 2254 was adopted in 2015 and calls for an end to attacks on civilians, dialogue between conflicting parties, and the holding of free and fair elections under UN supervision to facilitate a political transition in Syria.
