The Israeli military announced on Friday the imposition of a comprehensive closure on the West Bank and Gaza Strip on the upcoming Sunday and Monday in observance of the Jewish holiday “Yom Kippur.”
In a statement, the army noted that this measure is taken “based on the security assessment and directives from the political echelon” and encompasses “Judea and Samaria (the occupied West Bank) and the crossings with the Gaza Strip.”
According to the statement, the closure will commence at midnight on Saturday-Sunday and will be lifted at midnight on Monday-Tuesday.
The Israeli military indicated that the decision to lift the closure will be made following a security assessment.
It will also decide later on the possibility of imposing further closures during the remaining Jewish holidays, which conclude on October 6.
During the closure period, “humanitarian and medical cases will be allowed to pass after coordination with the government’s coordinator in the territories,” the statement said.
