Libyan Army Intensifies Search Efforts with 10,000 Troops

General Ahmed Al-Mismari, spokesperson for the Libyan National Army (LNA) announced today that 3,332 victims have been buried as of mid-Tuesday. He noted that several bodies were buried without identifying the deceased.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Al-Mismari mentioned that Al-Bayda Hospital received 35 bodies, of which the families identified their deceased. An additional nine were unidentified.

He emphasised that the armed forces have mobilised entire military units from the air, naval, and land forces since the disaster struck. The air defense forces have been involved in reconnaissance and search operations, along with helicopters.

Al-Mismari added that over 10,000 officers and soldiers are participating in search and rescue operations.

Regarding regional statistics, he stated that the Soussa area recorded 16 victims, 13 of whom were identified. Additionally, 13 casualties were reported in the city of Shahat, 5 missing in Al-Makhili, 6 in Taknes, 1 in Batta, 4 each in Marawa and Qaiqa, 3 in Omar Al-Mukhtar, and 11 in Qandula.

Furthermore, the Al-Sahel municipality’s operations room retrieved 109 bodies from the Talmeitha to Al-Hammam area, especially in the Jergar Umh region. Al-Bayda Hospital received 44 bodies, 9 of which remain unidentified and were buried as per the directives of the Public Prosecution.

Al-Mismari highlighted that body identification and burial processes are ongoing in Derna and other regions. Among the identified were victims of foreign nationalities. The Libyan Red Crescent has set up a location in Sirte to receive and distribute relief and aid.

He stressed that all rescue teams are actively working on the ground. International rescue teams and relief aircraft are still arriving. He also pointed out that Marshal Khalifa Haftar has issued a directive ensuring no rescue team departs before completing its tasks and being properly honored in a manner befitting Libya.
