Emad Trabelsi, the Libyan Interior Minister, revealed plans to install both night and day surveillance cameras along with deploying troops along the borders with Tunisia.

This initiative is part of the ministry’s strategy to address irregular migration.

Trabelsi made this announcement during a press conference held at the headquarters of the “Anti-Illegal migration Agency” in Tripoli, just before the deportation of dozens of migrants in the presence of diplomats from various African countries’ embassies, according to the Libyan news portal “Al-Wasat.”

He emphasized that the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in dealing with irregular migration are unparalleled in the past decade.

Trabelsi further stated that all security agencies under the ministry in the eastern and southern regions are making substantial contributions to this endeavor.

Regarding the borders with Tunisia, he mentioned that they have been handed over to the Border Guard Agency under the ministry’s jurisdiction and have undergone necessary maintenance.

The minister affirmed that Libya’s borders with Tunisia are now completely sealed against smuggling activities.

He pointed out that some migrants still make their way from Tunisia to Libya on foot, with certain organizations supporting this movement by providing aid to migrants in both Libya and Tunisia.

In August of the previous year, Tunisia and Libya reached an agreement to host asylum seekers from sub-Saharan African countries who were found along the shared border between the two nations.
