Microsoft Edge To Remove 5 Features

The upcoming version of Microsoft’s Edge web browser, which is set to launch next month, will remove five features.

The beta version, known as Edge 117, is set to become stable by 14 September 2023, as reported by Neowin and 9to5Google.

In this new version, five features are scheduled for removal, namely Math Solver, Picture Dictionary, Citations, Grammar Tools, and Kids Mode.

Microsoft had already indicated the discontinuation of these features in the release notes of its last beta channel update on 25 August.

The decision is made to enhance the user experience and simplify the More Tools menu. As Microsoft aims to attract more users to its Edge browser in competition with the more popular Google Chrome, it needs to set itself apart.

Occasionally, additional features can come across as excessive; for those unfamiliar with the mentioned features, they likely contributed to making the browser more cumbersome.

Microsoft seeks to streamline other aspects of Edge, such as tools catering to parents and educators, while it continues to integrate important AI features and shopping tools.

Earlier this month, the tech company introduced a public preview for Python integration in Excel, enabling proficient users of spreadsheets to blend Python language scripts with their regular Excel formulas within the same workbook.

“Now you can do advanced data analysis in the familiar Excel environment by accessing Python directly from the Excel ribbon,” Stefan Kinnestrand, the GM for Modern Work at Microsoft, said.
