Tens of thousands of protesters demonstrated in the American capital, Washington D.C., as part of the “Global Day of Action” demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and opposing American support for Israel.
The Palestinian News Agency “WAFA” reported that the demonstrators, estimated at over 400,000 people, raised Palestinian flags and many wore Palestinian keffiyehs in a solidarity march on the 100th day of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
The protesters chanted “Ceasefire now” and carried banners and posters with slogans like “Free Palestine,” “Stop the war on Gaza,” and “Stop funding genocide.”
Near the White House, speakers urged U.S. President Joe Biden to end military and financial support for Israel, as reported by “WAFA.”
In Tel Aviv, around 120,000 people gathered to participate in a march marking 100 days since the Israeli war against Hamas, according to “CNN.” The protesters demanded the release of hostages held by Hamas.
In a related context, Israeli occupation forces, reinforced with military vehicles, raided several towns in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh governorate early this morning. They stormed citizens’ homes and carried out arrest operations.
The raids also targeted the towns of Mazra’a al-Gharbiya, Aarura, Birzeit, and Jalazone refugee camp, northwest and north of the city of Ramallah.
The recent situation in Gaza has been marked by intense conflict and devastation. As of January 2024, the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has resulted in a staggering death toll and widespread injuries. An Israeli army attack on a house in Rafah killed 14 Palestinians, including a young child, contributing to the death toll that has risen to 23,843, with over 60,317 people wounded since October 7, 2023. The attacks have targeted various areas, including Rafah and several central Gaza Strip regions, leading to intense gunbattles, tank shelling, and airstrikes.
The United Nations has expressed grave concerns about the situation in Gaza, with the UN’s humanitarian chief describing it as a place of “death and despair” for Palestinians. Israeli attacks have targeted vital infrastructure, including hospitals and refugee camps, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. The heavy bombardments in areas like Deir el-Balah have forced residents to evacuate south, leaving many areas nearly uninhabitable.
