On Tuesday, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq refuted the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) justification for recent attacks in the city of Erbil, labeling their allegations as unfounded.
The KRG’s counterterrorism unit reported via Facebook that the IRGC launched a substantial number of ballistic missiles at civilian areas in Erbil around 11:30 pm local time (2030 GMT) on Monday. This assault resulted in the death of four civilians and injuries to six others.
The KRG statement strongly denied the IRGC’s assertion that the strikes were directed at “anti-Iranian group headquarters,” declaring such claims to be without merit.
t highlighted the pattern of attacks on Erbil, often executed under baseless pretexts, and maintained that Erbil has never been a threat to any entity, preserving its status as a stable and peaceful region.
The statement condemned these attacks as a blatant breach of both Iraq’s and the KRG’s sovereignty.
It urged the Iraqi central government and the international community to actively respond to this violation and not to remain silent in the face of such an act.
This response from the KRG came after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks in different parts of Erbil, stating that they had targeted locations they described as “headquarters of anti-Iranian terrorist groups and spies” in the area.
A total of 1,500 soldiers will join the US forces fighting against the Islamic State (ISIS) in both Syria and Iraq.
This gathering represents the largest deployment of National Guard troops in New Jersey since 2008.
The deployment of American troops is part of “Operation Inherent Resolve,” a campaign led by Washington since 2014 as part of the international coalition to combat extremist organizations in the Middle East.
