On Tuesday, Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority announced that a civilian airplane crashed during its landing attempt at Aden Abdulle International Airport in the nation’s capital, Mogadishu.
According to official sources, the cause of the crash was due to the front wheels falling off as soon as the plane landed. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine what may have led to this mechanical failure.
It’s noteworthy that the aircraft, carrying around 34 passengers, was operated by Halla Airlines and identified as 60-AAD. It was also reportedly that the passenger list included several government officials and previous ministers.
On his part, Somali Minister of Transport and Aviation Fardowsa Osman Egal confirmed that one person was injured in the accident, while all others were safely rescued. Emergency services were quick to respond and provided medical assistance to those in need.
She added that the civil defense teams were successful in evacuating all passengers onboard the aircraft, which was inbound from the city of Guriel.
According to press reports, this incident marks the first of its kind at Mogadishu airport. Yet, previous accidents, including one involving a passenger plane’s window explosion, have been documented.
