As reported by Hamas-affiliated medical sources on Monday, 300 Palestinian people were killed following the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Al-Shifa Hospital complex in Gaza City.
Palestinian television confirmed on Monday that the Israeli army had completely pulled out from the interior and surroundings of the Al-Shifa complex in the western part of Gaza.
Further reports from Palestinian television highlighted that buildings within the Al-Shifa complex were set ablaze, rendering the entire facility out of service.
The extent of the destruction at the complex and the surrounding buildings was described as “very large”.
Last Thursday, the Israeli military announced that Hamas militants opened fire on its soldiers from within the “emergency unit” of the Al-Shifa complex.
On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Israeli forces had killed over 200 militants in the medical complex.
This incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas militants, underscoring the severe humanitarian impact on Gaza’s infrastructure and civilian population.
The international community has expressed growing concern over the situation, calling for immediate ceasefires and the opening of corridors for medical and humanitarian aid.
Martin Griffiths, the UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, has called for an end to attempts to expel the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from the Gaza Strip.
He emphasized that humanitarian assistance in Gaza relies heavily on UNRWA, suggesting that efforts to distribute aid without the agency are doomed to failure.
Griffiths highlighted UNRWA’s unique capacity for access, expertise, and community trust as essential for successful humanitarian operations in Gaza. This stance was shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, underscoring the critical role UNRWA plays in the region.
