Authorities in Ukraine announced Wednesday that three people were killed and 12 others injured in a Russian shelling targeting the city of Selidove, near Donetsk in Eastern Ukraine.
The Selidove City Council stated on Telegram that the shelling affected nine residential buildings and the city’s hospital, located about twenty kilometers west of the frontline.
The council reported that among the casualties were three fatalities, including one child, and 12 injured, including four children, according to France-Presse Agency.
Donetsk region governor Vadym Lyakh stated that the city was shelled twice; the first round occurred around 23:30 local time on Tuesday, and the second around 01:00 on Wednesday.
He mentioned on Telegram that about 100 patients from the damaged city hospital were evacuated to other hospitals in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad cities.
The exact cause of the shelling, whether it was due to missiles, bombs, artillery shells, or armed drones, was not immediately clear.
Selidove, which had a pre-war population of about 21,000, is located in the outskirts of the larger city of Donetsk, occupied by Russia since 2014.
In contrast, Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency reported that the Russian air defenses intercepted two Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region near the Ukrainian border and a third over Voronezh, along with six other drones over the Black Sea, on Tuesday night into Wednesday.
According to Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, the interception of the drones resulted in injuries to a woman who was subsequently hospitalized.
