Mexican Foreign Minister Juan de la Fuente expressed his deep regret to his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdel Aaty, over the killing of three Egyptian citizens in Mexico, and offered condolences to the Egyptian government and the victims’ families. This came during a phone conversation between the two ministers to discuss the latest developments related to the incident.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty held the phone call with de la Fuente, addressing the shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of three Egyptian nationals. According to Tamim Khalaf, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mexican minister assured that investigations are ongoing and the Egyptian government will be informed of the results as soon as they are concluded.
Abdel Aaty urged the Mexican government to expedite the investigations and necessary procedures to ensure the victims’ bodies can be repatriated to Egypt. He also stressed the importance of providing the necessary medical care to the injured. Abdel Aaty has instructed the Egyptian ambassador in Mexico to travel to the city, located around 850 km from Mexico City, to follow up on the situation, finalize the repatriation of the bodies, and attend to the needs of the injured.
The Associated Press reported last Thursday that the Mexican military opened fire on a truck carrying migrants, killing six people in total. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum described the event as “tragic.” Among the victims were three Egyptians, one Peruvian, and one Honduran, with the sixth body yet to be identified.
