The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Tuesday about an outbreak of violent clashes in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, leading to the death of 25 individuals and injuring 42 others. These skirmishes involved local armed militants and groups loyal to the Syrian regime.
According to the SOHR, tranquillity was restored to villages and towns in the Deir ez-Zor countryside after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regained control over the town of Thiban, which is opposite Al-Mayadin on the western bank of the Euphrates River. SDF’s military forces were then deployed to regions that witnessed confrontations and assaults by local gunmen on military positions and checkpoints in Hawayij Thiban and Al-Tayana, in the outskirts of Deir ez-Zor.
The Observatory further stated on its official website that the SDF dispatched additional military reinforcements to the Euphrates region. This move coincided with attacks by local militants and those coming from territories controlled by the Syrian regime and Iranian militias from the opposite bank of the Euphrates.
Additionally, the SOHR had declared on Monday that the SDF instituted a curfew in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside. This precautionary measure was put in place to safeguard civilians following assaults by gunmen on an SDF headquarters. Local militants were reported to have attacked an SDF base in the town of Al-Tayana, in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside.
The Observatory received intel about casualties, both killed and injured, within the SDF ranks during these clashes. Moreover, a woman reportedly lost her life due to a stray bullet amidst the conflict between the SDF and local gunmen in eastern Deir ez-Zor’s countryside.
