In a violent outbreak in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday, armed militants using an explosive-laden truck stormed a police center, resulting in at least 24 fatalities. This latest attack, claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, is part of a series of assaults in recent months.
Security officials reported that the attack, which involved bombs and firearms, occurred in the Dera Ismail Khan area, situated on the fringes of the tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.
They added that the Pakistani military had been using the police center as a base, and several militants initially rammed the truck into the facility’s perimeter wall, followed by others who attacked with guns.
There are also concerns that military ammunition stored inside might have exploded during the assault.
A statement from the office of Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack and expressed sorrow over the loss of lives. Azaz Mahmood, an official from the state-run rescue service, reported that several individuals were critically injured.
He stated, “We are still hearing the sound of gunfire.”
