This instability has spread across the Sahel region, causing widespread displacement and turmoil. The escalating insecurity triggered two military coups in Mali since 2020, shifting the nation’s alliances and dynamics.
In June, the junta’s demand for the withdrawal of UN peacekeepers raised concerns about a deepening crisis in the country. The situation has prompted a reassessment of Mali’s security and regional stability.
