Clashes between government-aligned forces and the Houthi group, known as “Ansar Allah,” resulted in 20 casualties, including deaths and injuries in the coastal governorates of Taiz and Lahij in southern Yemen.
A Yemeni military source told Sputnik that a unit from the “Southern Giants Brigades,” part of the joint forces, launched an attack on Houthi positions on the outskirts of the Mawiyah district in eastern Taiz.
The four-hour-long confrontations enabled the forces to capture positions in a mountain range in the Shaukan area southeast of Mawiyah district.
The source also reported that forces from the “Security Belt” and the Fifth Brigade, affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (which advocates for the separation of southern Yemen), carried out a similar assault on Houthi positions in the Al-Qurayn front northwest of the Al-Musaymir district in northern Lahij.
The operation regained two strategic sites overlooking the Ahama area, which had been under Houthi control for two days.
According to the source, the confrontations, which involved various types of weapons, led to 7 deaths and 13 injuries on both sides.
These clashes followed incidents last Friday that resulted in 16 casualties, during similar fighting between forces of the Southern Transitional Council and the Houthis, where the latter had taken control of two positions in the Ahama front north of the Al-Musaymir district in Lahij.
