Colombian authorities have announced that the heavy rains have impeded search operations for nine missing individuals following landslides that have claimed the lives of at least 20 people in the country.

Two days after the devastating downpours struck the Cundinamarca province, the death toll has reached 20, including five minors, according to the fire department chief, Alvaro Farfan, who spoke to journalists on Wednesday.

Since Tuesday, rescue efforts have been focused on recovering bodies.

Fifteen bodies, including four children, have been retrieved from the rubble and debris, with an additional five victims recovered on Wednesday.

It is worth noting that this incident of landslides due to severe weather conditions is not the first of its kind in Colombia.

In December of last year, the country faced a similar tragedy when a landslide buried a bus and other vehicles in the northwest, claiming the lives of 34 people, including eight minors.
