The Venezuelan Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, announced the arrest of two Venezuelan citizens in the state of Monagas for allegedly spreading threats and conspiring to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Saab stated, “Two individuals were arrested on March 11 for spreading extremely serious threats and inciting the assassination of President Nicolás Maduro while he was in Maturín.”
The detainees were identified as Renzo Floris, a fugitive corporal from the National Guard, and Wilfer José Peña from the political organization “Causa R,” with Saab noting that they were members of the political organization “Together for Monagas.”
Upon examining the detainees’ mobile phones, conversations were found regarding recruiting 50 soldiers to seize weapons and organize a rebellion.
The Venezuelan Attorney General’s Office intends to charge the detainees with criminal conspiracy and attempted murder in the coming hours.
In January of last year, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced the thwarting of five “conspiracies” by right-wing opposition in 2023, including plans to assassinate him. Maduro also mentioned thwarted plots to assassinate Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López, top military leaders, and Táchira state governor Freddy Bernal.
