A tragic incident unfolded in the city of Omdurman where more than 19 civilians were reported dead following an indiscriminate bombardment.
Several others were injured in the wake of artillery and drone strikes launched by the Sudanese army, targeting the Ambada district, specifically in the 21st Ward.
The Resistance Committees of Ambada Ward 21 released a statement on their Facebook page describing the incident.
According to their report, the shelling, which comprised of artillery and drone strikes, was intended for two Rapid Support Forces’ strongholds in the Salehin Ambada area. However, the execution was imprecise, subsequently striking innocent civilians, leading to the tragic death of 19 individuals. The exact number of injured persons is yet to be confirmed.
Tensions escalated on Tuesday when violent clashes erupted between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in multiple areas of the capital, Khartoum. These confrontations saw a heavy use of artillery.
Eyewitnesses told “Erm News” that “old Omdurman neighborhoods experienced intense skirmishes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces after the army tried to sweep the area, which is considered a point of contact between the two sides.”
Omdurman is one of the largest cities in Sudan, located across the Nile from the capital, Khartoum. The city has historically been a focal point for various political and military confrontations.
