Fearing the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, several global airlines have either suspended their flights to the region or avoided certain airspace.
This move reflects growing concerns about safety amidst increasing regional tensions.
Aegean Airlines
The Greek national carrier has cancelled all its flights to and from Beirut, Amman, and Tel Aviv until August 19.
Air Algérie
This airline has temporarily suspended flights to and from Lebanon until further notice.
Air Baltic
Owned by the Latvian government, it has cancelled all its flights to and from Tel Aviv until August 18.
Air India
Suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv indefinitely.
Air France-KLM Group
Air France resumed its flights between Paris and Beirut on August 15 after a two-week suspension. Meanwhile, KLM, the Dutch arm, has cancelled all its flights to and from Tel Aviv until October 26.
Transavia, its low-cost unit, has also cancelled flights to and from Tel Aviv until March 31, 2025, and to Amman until November 3.
Cathay Pacific
The Hong Kong-based airline has cancelled all its flights to Tel Aviv until March 27, 2025.
Delta Airlines
The American airline has extended the suspension of flights between New York and Tel Aviv until August 31.
EasyJet
According to a spokesperson, the British low-cost airline stopped its flights to and from Tel Aviv in April and plans to resume them on March 30, 2025.
Finnair
Continues to avoid Iranian airspace, potentially extending flight times to and from Doha.
ITA Airways
The Italian airline has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Tel Aviv until August 19.
LOT Polish Airlines
According to an email statement sent to Reuters, it has suspended flights to Israel until August 18 and to Beirut until August 26.
Lufthansa Group
This includes Swiss Air Lines, Brussels Airlines, and Austrian Airlines, which are also avoiding Iranian and Iraqi airspace. They announced suspensions of flights to and from Tel Aviv, Tehran, Beirut, Amman, and Erbil until August 21.
Ryanair
Europe’s largest low-cost carrier has cancelled flights to and from Tel Aviv until September 3 due to “operational restrictions.”
Singapore Airlines
It has ceased flying over Iranian airspace and is taking alternative routes.
TAROM
The Romanian national carrier has extended its flight suspension to Tel Aviv, Amman, and Beirut until August 19.
United Airlines
The Chicago-based airline has suspended its flights to Tel Aviv indefinitely. It previously suspended daily flights from Newark, New Jersey, to Tel Aviv on July 31, citing security concerns.
Vueling
The Spanish low-cost airline, part of the International Airlines Group (IAG), has cancelled all its flights to Tel Aviv and Amman until October 26.
UK Advisories
The UK has advised airlines to avoid Lebanese airspace from August 8 to November 4, citing a “potential risk to aviation from military activity.”
These widespread disruptions underscore the significant impact of regional instability on international travel and the cautious approach taken by airlines amidst ongoing security challenges.
Meanwhile, the death toll in Gaza has risen to 40,005, with the majority of the victims being children and women, since the onset of the Israeli occupation’s assault on October 7.
In a statement, the Palestinian Ministry of Health added that the number of injuries has surged to 92,401 since the beginning of the aggression. Thousands of victims are still trapped under the rubble.
