The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced a tragic increase in the death toll of its employees in the Gaza Strip, with 151 fatalities recorded since October 7.
The agency released a statement confirming the alarming number of casualties among its staff since the outbreak of violence in Gaza.
The UNRWA added that significant disruptions in communication services are severely hindering relief operations in the region.
Additionally, the intense Israeli bombardment and fighting, particularly in Khan Yunis and the central areas of Gaza in recent days, have forced many families to repeatedly relocate in search of safety, leading to a large number of displaced people moving southward.
The Gaza Health Ministry has raised concerns about the spread of Hepatitis A infections in the camps, attributing the rise in suspected cases to overcrowding, lack of clean water, and inadequate sanitation facilities. This health crisis is exacerbating the already dire situation in the region.
Furthermore, the Gaza Health Ministry reported on Thursday that a total of 24,620 Palestinians have been killed and 61,830 others injured in the ongoing Israeli strikes on Gaza since October 7.
This alarming figure reflects the grave situation in the region, as the conflict continues to escalate, causing significant loss of life and widespread destruction.
Reports from United Nations organizations indicate that for the first time, medicines for Israeli prisoners and detainees were allowed into Gaza alongside a shipment of relief supplies for Palestinians, under an agreement brokered by Qatar and France.
According to the official United Nations website, UN humanitarian workers warn that the level of assistance for many residents of Gaza has now become “near catastrophic”.
This development comes at a time when the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported “intense” ongoing Israeli bombing of the occupied territories and rocket fire at Israel by Palestinian armed groups in its latest update on Wednesday.
