In a significant operation, the media branch of the General Command forces announced the seizure of two containers containing over 15 million narcotic tablets (of the brand “Brijabali”) at the Benghazi seaport.
The operation, carried out by military units and specialized security agencies, was a result of coordinated efforts between the ground forces and the Customs Authority, with the presence of the public prosecution.
The operation followed thorough monitoring, investigation, and intelligence gathering regarding a large-scale drug smuggling attempt through the port.
The shipment was subsequently confiscated and destroyed.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar seizure in October, when a shipment containing 15 million narcotic tablets (Lyrical) was intercepted at the Benghazi Customs Center.
In late December, the Office of the Attorney General announced the arrest of a judicial seizure officer on charges of accepting a bribe in exchange for allowing the entry of 208,600 narcotic tablets without customs inspection.
Efforts to combat drug trafficking and smuggling continue to be a top priority for authorities in Benghazi, with ongoing operations aimed at safeguarding the nation’s security and well-being.
