In a new provisional toll, the Ministry of the Interior revealed that heavy rains in Morocco have left 11 victims so far.
Increase in Death Toll
The country was hit by a very strong rain and thunderstorm, affecting 17 provinces and regions in Morocco, leading to an increase in the death toll.
A correspondent for “Al Arabiya/Al Hadath” reported on Sunday that floods struck southeastern Morocco, resulting in the deaths of 11 people in the provinces of Tata, Tiznit, and Errachidia, including foreigners. He added that the rainfall had led to 9 people missing in the same areas. He explained that the ongoing storm for two days accounts for nearly half the amount of rainfall that the region receives annually, noting that the rain gauge recorded 250 millimeters in Tata Province, 203 millimeters in Tinghir Province, 114 millimeters in Figuig Province, and 82 millimeters in Ouarzazate Province.
Material Damage and Warnings
It should be noted that the storm also caused material damage, including the collapse of 40 dwellings, 24 of which were completely destroyed, and partial collapses of four medium-sized structures. Additionally, 93 road segments, including national, regional, and provincial roads, were damaged and traffic was disrupted. To date, public authorities have managed to restore traffic on 53 of these segments. The storm also caused damage to electricity and drinking water supply networks, as well as telephone networks.
Furthermore, authorities continue through field teams to lift the isolation on affected areas and restore road connectivity, electricity, and water supply networks, as well as communication services. The Ministry of the Interior has urged residents of the flood-stricken areas to exercise the utmost caution and avoid any behavior that endangers their lives, especially as the weather remains unstable, and to fully comply with the directions and guidelines of the authorities to ensure their safety.
