Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups have reported a surge in arrests across the West Bank, including Jerusalem, with the total surpassing 10,000 since the onset of the conflict in Gaza.
According to the groups, the arrests encompass 94 journalists, with 53 still detained, including five women and at least 16 journalists from Gaza whose identities have been confirmed.
Moreover, 17 individuals are currently held under administrative detention.
Since the beginning of the Israeli offensive, there have been over 8,322 administrative detention orders issued, affecting both children and women.
The prisoner organizations’ report details ongoing arrest campaigns accompanied by severe violations, including physical assaults, threats against detainees and their families, extensive property destruction, vehicle and valuables confiscation, and widespread infrastructure damage, particularly in Tulkarm and Jenin refugee camps.
The report also highlights the demolition of homes belonging to prisoners’ families and the use of their relatives as hostages, with some detainees being used as human shields.
Furthermore, the report states that since October 7th, at least 22 prisoners, whose identities have been disclosed, have died in custody due to torture, starvation, and medical neglect.
Additionally, dozens of detainees from Gaza have died under undisclosed circumstances in prisons and camps, along with numerous instances of extrajudicial killings.
As of early August 2024, the total number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails is reported to exceed 9,900, with 3,432 under administrative detention.
The report also notes a single female prisoner in Damon Prison, among 83 female prisoners including one pregnant woman.
Twenty of these women are held under administrative detention, and there are indications of more female prisoners in camps, though exact numbers remain unclear. The number of detained children is reported to be at least 250.
An Israeli settler was killed, and another was injured in a shooting incident in the northern part of the occupied West Bank on Sunday. The attack took place in the Jordan Valley, a region that has seen increasing violence and tension in recent years.
