ISIS fighters killed 10 Syrian government troops and militiamen in the extremists’ former stronghold of Raqqa province, a war monitor announced on Tuesday.
“ISIS attacked positions and checkpoints belonging to the regime… setting fire to military vehicles and prefabricated houses,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.
Earlier this week, an Israeli missile strike near Damascus early Monday morning left four soldiers dead, according to SANA.
The SOHR revealed that the strikes targeted weapons and munitions warehouses and positions of Iran-backed militias around Damascus.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry denounced the attack “in the strongest terms” and called on the UN to “take immediate action.”
Last month, Israeli forces attacked seven targets in Damascus. They included warehouses used by Hezbollah, the Lebanese armed group, which, along with Iran, has supported the government of President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian civil war.
