Authorities announced that one person was killed and three others suffered minor to serious injuries following a fire in an asylum center in Nordlingen, a town in the southern German state of Bavaria.

In a statement, a police spokesperson pointed out that the cause of the fire which broke out on Sunday is still under investigation.

The accommodation is no longer habitable, according to Xinhua news agency. The approximately 50 residents are temporarily housed in a hall.

Earlier this month, several children were injured in a knife attack carried out by a teenager at a school in western Germany.

A spokesperson for the Dusseldorf police stated that the 17-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and is currently in police custody, as reported by the “French Press Agency”.

The source added that there are about 5 injured, noting that “the attack has ended.”

The injuries sustained by the victims of the attack, which occurred at a school in the city of Wuppertal in the Ruhr Basin area, are severe but not life-threatening.

The police presume that the attacker had a “connection to the school,” referring to a message from the institution’s administration to the parents, indicating that he is a 17-year-old high school student suffering from a mental illness.
