Zoom is set to introduce its artificial intelligence(AI) tool called AI Companion for its video calls and chat features.
The ChatGPT-like chatbot aims to enhance user productivity, though it may also raise data privacy concerns.
The tool, an evolved version of the earlier ZoomIQ, is used to summarize chats and offer automated answers.
In the coming year, the firm plans to allow users to converse with the AI Companion, assisting them in various tasks like meeting preparations, summarizing previous sessions, and document searches.
Users can also interact with this virtual assistant during meetings for support or to search for on-the-spot answers. Zoom envisions this feature as a personal virtual assistant for users.
These conversational features won’t ship until Spring, 2024, according to a company blog post.
“With AI Companion empowering you in Zoom, you can save time, improve the quality of your work, and stay more connected with teammates no matter where or when they work,” Chief Product Officer Smita Hashim said.
The feature will enable users to receive insightful coaching that will help them level up skills like delivering a great presentation
Zoom said its approach to AI relies on its own proprietary large language model in combination with Meta’s Llama 2, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
This “federated approach to AI” should let the AI Companion quickly incorporate new advancements from multiple different models.
Zoom did not immediately respond to Gizmodo’s request for comment for more details.
