Torrential rains triggered a deadly landslide in the Yemeni Al-Jaref village, Dhamar province, on Friday night, killing at least 27 people and leaving two missing, according to local media reports on Saturday. This marks the second fatal landslide in Yemen within a week.

Houthi media reported that the landslide also damaged or destroyed 23 homes in the hillside village. Locals said at least two dozen people were trapped inside two houses as a landslide caused by a collapsing hilltop dam swept them away. The bodies of at least 10 victims were found hours later in Dhamar.

In the northern province of Mahweet, local authorities in Melhan district warned that flood-affected communities remain isolated, risking starvation if food supplies run out. The UN Population Fund reported that landslides caused by the collapse of three dams devastated several highland villages in Melhan on Tuesday night, leaving 41 people missing, affecting 1,020 families, destroying 40 homes, and partially damaging 230 others.

Local authorities noted that floods washed away some roads and obstructed others, making it impossible for even donkeys to reach the stranded communities.
