Yemen’s Defense Minister, General Mohsen Al-Daeri, engaged in discussions with Major General Mohammed Al-Mughaidi, Secretary of the Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism, to bolster mutual cooperation.
The meeting, held at the alliance’s headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was highlighted by Yemen’s state-run “Al Yemen TV.”
During his visit, General Al-Daeri underscored the importance of the alliance in combating terrorism, a scourge that has afflicted many countries including Yemen.
He pointed out the pivotal role of the alliance in serving the interests of its member states in fighting terrorism in all its forms.
General Al-Daeri also lauded Saudi Arabia’s leadership for its initiative in establishing and supporting the alliance, which has made significant contributions to the fight against terrorism and efforts to eradicate its roots.
On his part, Major General Al-Mughaidi emphasized that the alliance represents a comprehensive system striving to enhance cooperation among member states.
He noted the alliance’s foundation on principles of legitimacy, independence, coordination, participation, and ensuring that all efforts by member states in combating terrorism align with international systems, norms, and laws.
Yemeni security and political sources estimate that over 5,000 individuals have been detained in association with the annual celebration of the September 26 Revolution, primarily in the Ibb governorate.
The arrest campaign, led by Ali Hussein al-Houthi, the son of the group’s founder, continues under the directive of the newly established police intelligence unit by Abdul Karim al-Houthi, the Interior Minister of the coup government and uncle of the group’s leader.
According to sources in Houthi-controlled areas, the new intelligence unit is tasked with suppressing any popular movements opposing the Houthi regime, targeting those labelled as the ‘fifth column’ within its ranks.
