The Republic of Yemen has assumed the presidency of the 162nd session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent representatives.
The Yemeni representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Riyad Al-Kaabri, took over the presidency of the Arab League Council from the representative of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Ambassador Hussein Sidi Abdullah Al-Dieh, who presided over the 161st session. The regular 162nd session meetings of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent representatives began on Sunday to prepare for the upcoming meeting of Arab foreign ministers scheduled for next Tuesday.
The Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives will discuss topics related to enhancing joint Arab action, the Palestinian issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict, a section on Arab affairs and Arab national security, and files on Arab-international cooperation, as well as several economic, political, and social issues of the Arab states.
The Yemeni representative and current president of the 162nd session emphasized that “this session will primarily focus on agreeing on a joint Arab stance against the fascist Israeli aggression on the resilient people in the occupied Palestinian territories.” He highlighted that “today’s reality before everyone is that an unarmed occupied people are subjected to systematic genocide, ethnic cleansing, deliberate starvation, and displacement.”
He mentioned that “the International Security Council does not fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities to stop this fascist war against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, from besieging cities and camps to forced displacement, using starvation as a weapon in the brutal Israeli war, systematic killing, destruction of infrastructure for Palestinian refugee camps, and non-stop raids on cities, villages, and camps, home demolitions, and the bulldozing and destruction of streets and infrastructure by the occupation, and the arrest of thousands of Palestinian civilians under inhumane conditions.”
He stressed that “these atrocities and crimes have become a symbol of the abysmal failure of what is called the international community and the International Security Council, leaving the Palestinian people alone to suffer the crimes of the occupation and its catastrophic consequences.”
