Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Mr. Romain Victor Grandjean, Regional Director of The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), and his accompanying delegation in the interim capital of Aden. The meeting aimed to discuss the critical objective of restoring state institutions in Yemen and the ongoing efforts towards achieving sustainable peace in the region.

During the meeting, the HD delegation provided insights into the center’s commendable interventions worldwide, particularly its efforts to mitigate the dangers of armed conflicts and their far-reaching consequences on national, regional, and international levels.

In turn, President Al-Alimi briefed the HD delegation on the latest developments in Yemen, including the mediation efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to reinvigorate the peace process and initiate a comprehensive political dialogue under UN auspices. He highlighted the complexities posed by the Iran-backed Houthi militias, whose actions have exacerbated humanitarian suffering in Yemen through terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure and international shipping routes.

President Al-Alimi reaffirmed that achieving a just peace, based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references, particularly UN Resolution 2216, remains the paramount interest of the Yemeni people. He emphasized that restoring state institutions is crucial for ensuring rights, freedoms, justice, and equal citizenship, ultimately leading to a more secure, stable, and prosperous Yemen within the regional and international context.

Furthermore, the president stressed that restoring state institutions is a top priority for both the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, constituting the ultimate objective of any sustainable peace efforts. He emphasized the importance of inclusive partnership without discrimination or exclusion to pave the way for a brighter future for all Yemenis.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, underscoring the significance of the discussions regarding the restoration of state institutions and the pursuit of lasting peace in Yemen.
