The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that it has been forced to stop distributing food in northern Gaza due to a severe shortage of supplies.

This suspension comes as access to aid in the region faces significant challenges, with stringent restrictions making it nearly impossible for humanitarian organizations to deliver critical assistance.

The WFP reported that the ongoing shortage of supplies in Gaza has resulted in the complete halt of food parcel distribution. Bakeries in southern and central Gaza are running out of flour, exacerbating the already dire food crisis.

The inability to provide basic provisions is worsening the situation for Gaza’s residents, who are struggling with severe food insecurity amidst the ongoing conflict.

For five consecutive days, northern Gaza, particularly the Jabalia refugee camp, has been heavily targeted by military operations, with airstrikes, house demolitions, and forced displacements creating a dire humanitarian situation.

The Israeli military has imposed a land siege on the area as part of its broader conflict with Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023.

Local authorities have described the military actions as acts of ethnic cleansing and mass extermination, as they continue to resist forced evacuation.

This latest suspension of WFP operations follows a temporary halt in August when one of its vehicles came under fire near an Israeli military checkpoint despite receiving prior clearance from authorities.

As the food crisis deepens, international humanitarian groups are calling for immediate action to restore access to Gaza and prevent further escalation of the humanitarian disaster.

The suspension of food distribution leaves millions of people in Gaza at heightened risk of hunger and malnutrition, compounding the broader emergency in the region.
