Ajay Banga, the President of the World Bank Group, has emphasized that instability in certain countries due to conflicts is among the biggest challenges to achieving comprehensive development worldwide.

He highlighted the World Bank’s initiative to connect 130 million people in Africa to electricity, underscoring it as a fundamental human right.

This endeavor requires collaboration from the governments of these countries, alongside the World Bank’s future strategy to provide alternative agriculture, aid developing nations in adapting to climate change, and focus on forestry projects to boost investments.

Banga’s remarks were made during a session titled “How Can We Maximize the Impact of Our Development Efforts?” attended by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. This event was part of the first day of the World Government Summit 2024.

Banga further stated that growth and prosperity are linked to peace and stability. The World Bank, in collaboration with numerous countries, is focused on supporting youth and women to build a better future for humanity.

He outlined the World Bank’s top priorities, including eradicating poverty, preserving the health of the planet, and addressing climate change challenges.

He announced that the World Bank is working to reduce the negotiation period for loan grants to countries to a maximum of 12 months from 19 months, aiming to expedite development efforts and assist these countries in completing projects that benefit their populations.

Banga mentioned that the World Bank has revised its vision and strategy to focus its assistance on poverty eradication and making the planet a better place to live.

This involves supporting countries in facing crises and pandemics, with a significant emphasis on climate issues.

The World Bank has allocated 45% of its annual financing to support climate-related challenges, aiming to help countries adapt to climate change and mitigate its adverse effects.

Over the next two decades, the World Bank plans to focus on supporting basic education, and agriculture, and empowering women and youth as key pillars of societies. This will ensure their access to appropriate education and jobs while also emphasizing the safety of our planet.
