Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has issued a stark warning regarding the potential humanitarian disaster that could arise from an Israeli military operation in Rafah, Gaza.

Speaking via his account on the platform X, Dr. Tedros appealed to Israel to reconsider any military actions, stating, “An invasion of Rafah would be a humanitarian disaster. We urge Israel not to proceed and call on all parties to work towards a ceasefire and lasting peace.”

Adding to the international concern, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres described the potential attack on Rafah as a “major escalation.”

During a press conference, Guterres highlighted the intolerable nature of the potential attack, which could lead to the deaths of thousands of civilians. He warned of serious repercussions not only for the West Bank but for the entire region.

Secretary-General Guterres has made a plea to all those with influence over Israel to do everything possible to prevent a military strike on Rafah, emphasizing the critical need to avert further escalation of the conflict in Gaza.
