The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has highlighted a concerning report from the United Nations children’s agency, revealing that a staggering 13,750 children have lost their lives in Gaza over nearly six months of relentless conflict.

Speaking on Tuesday, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder emphasized the profound impact of the war on Gaza, stating that the region has now experienced “humanity’s darkest chapters.”

Elder stressed the urgent need for action, asserting that “humanity must now urgently write a different chapter” to address the escalating crisis.

For several months, UN agencies have been issuing warnings about the dire situation, emphasizing that without an immediate ceasefire and bolstered aid supplies, further lives will be lost.

During a press briefing, Elder highlighted the alarming increase in child malnutrition rates in Gaza. He noted that prior to the conflict, such cases were rare. However, the current situation has resulted in one in three children under the age of two suffering from acute malnutrition, underscoring the pressing need for humanitarian intervention.
